White-faced Heron

White-faced Heron

The white-faced heron (Egretta novaehollandiae), also known as the blue crane, is a common sight pretty much everywhere there is water in Australia – from tidal mudflats to outback billabongs, along coastlines and creeks, in paddocks and gardens. It is most often seen standing still on a post, or quietly stalking the shallows in its search for small fish, insects and amphibians.
