New Zealand Fur Seal

New Zealand Fur Seal

Although there are no native land mammals in New Zealand, the country is blessed with a rich marine wildlife, including an estimated 60,000 fur seals (Arctocephalus forsteri) who come to shore to form busy colonies on ocean-beaten rocks. Called Kekeno in Maori, the seals can grow up to 2.5m and weigh up to 150 kg.
